About MX5 Cup

Serious racing without the ego — NSW's Mazda MX-5 championship across four classes and six rounds.

What Is MX5 Cup?

MX5 Cup is a NSW-based circuit racing championship built around the Mazda MX-5. It runs four classes under the same regulations umbrella, so whether you’re running a budget Super 200 car or a full forced-induction build, you’re on the same grid, at the same venues, on the same weekend.

The series is designed to keep costs sensible, rules clear, and racing close. The championship runs an outright points table alongside class standings, so every driver is competing for something meaningful regardless of which class they enter.

MX5 Cup operates under Motorsport Australia regulations and is sanctioned to deliver a safe and professionally run event at every round.

The Four Classes

Every class competes on the same day at the same venue. Drivers earn both class points and outright championship points.

FI

Forced Induction

Turbocharged or supercharged MX-5 builds. The fastest class on the grid — for drivers who want maximum performance within the MX-5 platform.

NAS

Naturally Aspirated Slicks

Naturally aspirated engines on slick tyres. Close, technical racing where setup and driver skill decide the result.

NAT

Naturally Aspirated Treaded

Naturally aspirated engines on treaded (road) tyres. A great stepping stone for drivers moving from road events to circuit racing.

200

Super 200

A budget-focused class that keeps the cost of entry low and the racing competitive. The most accessible way to join the MX5 Cup grid.

Full class specifications are in the Technical Regulations.

Who Runs It?

MX5 Cup is organised by Motor Racing Australia Pty Ltd, a NSW-based motorsport promotion company. The series works in partnership with Motorsport Australia and circuit operators to deliver a safe, professional event at every round.

The team behind MX5 Cup is made up of people who race themselves. The goal is straightforward: keep the costs manageable, the rules fair, and the racing hard.

How to Get Involved

01

Get a Licence

You need a current Motorsport Australia competition licence to race. Check the Sporting Regulations for the minimum licence level required for your chosen class.

02

Prepare a Car

Build or buy an eligible Mazda MX-5 prepared to the class specifications in the Technical Regulations. Many cars come ready to race — check classifieds in the MX5 community.

03

Read the Regs

Read both the Sporting and Technical Regulations before your first event. Technical scrutineering happens at every round and your car must comply.

04

Enter a Round

Submit your entry through the online entry system when entries open for each round. Watch the Events page for entry open dates and deadlines.
